On 24 July 1999, a two-man expedition sets out from South Africa to conquer the two highest mountains in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya. The High on Africa expedition is the first ever of its kind for various reasons. It will be the first time ever that such an expedition is followed so completely in the media and we aim to bring you daily voice links, copy and also photographic images of the entire expedition. For the period between 24 July 1999 and 11 August 1999, the two highest mountains in Africa are coming to your computer screen in full colour!
Some of the problems we will face include altitude sickness, fatigue and cold. Our technological challenges include being able to link up via satellite telephone and computer to download electronic bits of information for you to experience as an adventure on-line. We will face temperatures of as low as minus 20 degrees Celcius and will have no access to electrical power for as long as 8 days on end. This makes bringing you the adventure almost as much fun as doing it ourselves. Our equipment includes technical climbing harnesses, climbing ropes, cold weather gear, satellite telephone, notebook computer, digital camera and other odds and ends.
