There are two distinct rain seasons in Tanzania. The long rains during April and May and the short rains during November and December. It is not advisable to plan a holiday in Zanzibar during the long rain season as there are bound to be several rainy days to interrupt your holiday plans.
The best seasons to travel to Zanzibar would be during July, August and September. Traditional holiday times such as December, January and even February are also good times of the year, although one should be prepared for high temperatures.
Being only a few degrees south of the equator means that Zanzibar enjoys very high average temperatures and care should be taken against sunburn during your visit. When planning to be outdoors for long periods, an effective sunscreen and a hat are recommended.
