Zanzibar

Whenever one hears the word "Zanzibar", you immediately conjure up images of a mystery island, perhaps of slaves shackled to be sold, or Arab dhows plying the scented trade routes. These images contribute to Zanzibar's illustrious past, helping form one of the most colourful cultures in Africa. Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Unguja, Mnemba and Pemba Islands, and some smaller islets. Located in the Indian Ocean, about 40 kilometers off the Tanzanian coast, it lies barely 6° south of the equator. Unguja island is 96 km long and 32 km wide.
